Delhi High Court Grounds SpiceJet Engines Over Unpaid Lease Dues

In a decisive ruling, the Delhi High Court has instructed SpiceJet to halt operations of three leased engines due to a significant payment default. The court’s order, issued on August 14, mandates the airline to cease use of these engines by August 16 and return them to the French lessors, Team France 01 SAS and Sunbird France 02 SAS, within 15 days.

Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora’s order emphasizes that SpiceJet must facilitate an inspection of the engines at Delhi Airport within the next week and provide passes for the lessors’ representatives.

The court’s decision stems from claims by the lessors that SpiceJet has accumulated a debt of $4.8 million. SpiceJet remains liable for this outstanding amount and any additional weekly fees for the use of the engines.

The court’s ruling marks a significant blow to SpiceJet, underscoring its financial troubles and failure to honor its leasing agreements.
