In a significant move, the Supreme Court Collegium has put forward its recommendation for three prominent advocates to join the Delhi High Court as judges. The Collegium, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud alongside Justices Sanjiv Khanna and BR Gavai, has proposed Ajay Digpaul, Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar, and Shwetasree Majumder for these prestigious roles.
Ajay Digpaul brings a rich tapestry of legal experience, having practiced across various domains including civil, criminal, and constitutional law for over three decades. His extensive work is showcased in 42 reported High Court judgments.
Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar is recognized for his prolific legal career, contributing to 180 reported judgments. His deep-rooted expertise promises to be a substantial asset to the court.
Shwetasree Majumder, known for her specialization in Intellectual Property Rights, adds a unique dimension to the bench. With over 21 years of experience and a significant portfolio in IP and technology law, her appointment is expected to enhance the court’s capacity in these critical areas. Her inclusion is also anticipated to bolster diversity and inclusivity within the High Court.
The recommendations come after a thorough evaluation by the Collegium, which reviewed relevant materials and the Department of Justice’s observations. The inter-se seniority of the appointees will be determined according to established practices.
