In a significant ruling, the Supreme Court has upheld the Bombay High Court’s decision to deny anticipatory bail to a father implicated in a scandal following a fatal accident involving his minor son in Pune. The tragic incident, which occurred on May 19, 2024, saw a Porsche, allegedly driven by the son, collide with a motorcycle in the Kalyani Nagar area, resulting in the deaths of two individuals.
Following the crash, reports emerged claiming that the father, along with other co-accused, attempted to tamper with evidence by swapping blood samples in a bid to hide traces of alcohol consumption. The Bombay High Court had earlier determined there was sufficient evidence suggesting the father’s involvement in a conspiracy to alter his son’s blood test, allegedly paying off doctors to cover up crucial evidence.
The Court emphasized that such actions undermined the investigation, and the father’s potential flight risk could further jeopardize the case. In light of the severity of the offenses, the Supreme Court affirmed the denial of bail, underlining the seriousness of the charges and the risk of obstruction to justice.
