In a significant turn of events, the Allahabad High Court has called for a thoughtful approach by the media in covering the Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah Masjid case, urging restraint to maintain the dignity of the legal process.
Justice Ram Manohar Narayan Mishra emphasized the critical importance of accurate and responsible reporting, warning that any misrepresentation of the proceedings could be seen as contempt of court. “It is imperative that the media exercises due caution while reporting on this case to preserve the sanctity of the court’s orders,” the judge remarked.
The caution followed concerns raised by an advocate representing one of the parties, who expressed alarm over the growing public anxiety and the role of the legal community involved. He stressed that sensationalized or incorrect media coverage could worsen the tension surrounding the case.
The case revolves around original suits filed for the removal of the Shahi Idgah Masjid in Mathura, claiming it was constructed over the Krishna Janmabhoomi land. Plaintiffs are also seeking possession of the premises and the demolition of the existing structure.
These suits were transferred from a local civil court to the High Court in May 2023. Earlier this year, the Court consolidated multiple related suits, further consolidating the legal battle. The matter is set to be heard again on December 4.
With such a sensitive and high-profile case at hand, the court’s call for careful media conduct reflects its commitment to ensuring fair and orderly legal proceedings.
