The Central government has officially announced the appointment of Justice G Narendar as the Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court. Justice Narendar, previously serving as a judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, will assume his new role following a recommendation from the Supreme Court Collegium on September 24.
Having started his judicial career on January 2, 2015, as a judge of the Karnataka High Court, Justice Narendar was later transferred to the Andhra Pradesh High Court on October 30, 2023. His extensive experience spans both judicial and administrative roles, earning recognition for his contributions across high courts.
The appointment also addresses the absence of representation from the Karnataka High Court among the current Chief Justices. Justice Narendar’s career began in legal practice before the Karnataka High Court, and he belongs to the Other Backward Class community.
The Ministry of Law and Justice formalized this decision under Article 217 of the Constitution of India.
