In a notable development for the judiciary, Pravin Sheshrao Patil has officially taken office as an additional judge of the Bombay High Court. The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice Alok Aradhe during a formal ceremony.
This appointment, approved by the Central government on January 23, follows a recommendation by the Supreme Court collegium made in December of the previous year.
With Patil’s inclusion, the Bombay High Court now has 68 sitting judges, though it still falls short of its sanctioned strength of 94. This underscores the ongoing demand for judicial appointments to address the increasing workload at one of the country’s busiest high courts.
