The Allahabad High Court is set to strengthen its bench with the addition of Praveen Kumar Giri as a judge, following approval from the Central government.
A formal notification from the Union Ministry of Law and Justice announced the appointment, made under Article 217(1) of the Constitution. Giri’s name had been put forward by the Supreme Court Collegium in December 2024, and his tenure begins upon assuming office.
This development raises the High Court’s active judicial strength to 79, still significantly below its sanctioned capacity of 160.
