The long-delayed elections for Delhi’s Bar associations have been postponed once more, with the Delhi High Court setting March 21 as the new date. This marks yet another shift in the timeline, which has already seen multiple changes since last year.
The decision came from a bench comprising Justices Yashwant Varma, Rekha Palli, and C Hari Shankar, who noted that previous deadlines had been missed. The court also pointed out that the Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) had yet to form its Election Commission, while various bar associations were still in the process of securing electronic voting machines for a smooth voting process.
The elections were initially slated for December 13, then pushed to February 7, later to February 28, and have now been rescheduled again. The shifting dates have caused ongoing uncertainty, with concerns raised over the final voter list and discrepancies in issued proximity cards.
The High Court emphasized that the voter list published on February 14 would be the definitive list for participation, instructing that any issues with proximity cards be resolved immediately.
Given repeated delays and logistical concerns, the court ruled that elections would be held only after the Holi break, ensuring adequate preparation time and preventing disruptions to court proceedings. The ruling also mandated that the DHCBA set up its Election Commission by February 22 and submit a full election schedule by February 24.
With this latest postponement, all eyes are now on March 21—what is being positioned as the final date for the much-anticipated elections.
