The Supreme Court has halted proceedings in an FIR against badminton star Lakshya Sen, who is facing accusations of manipulating his birth certificate to gain an unfair edge in junior tournaments. The court also sought responses from the Karnataka government and the complainant, MG Nagaraj, who alleges that the birth records of both Lakshya and his brother, Chirag Sen, were tampered with.
A judicial bench ordered a stay on the case while issuing notices to the concerned parties. The complaint, which triggered the police action, claims that the brothers’ ages were artificially reduced by about two and a half years—allegedly with the help of their parents and coach—enabling them to compete in junior categories and secure government benefits.
Previously, the Karnataka High Court had refused to quash the case, stating that sufficient grounds existed for the investigation to continue. That decision led the accused to seek relief from the Supreme Court, which will take up the matter again in April.
