In a move addressing mounting concerns, the Central Government has finalized bench assignments for 21 of the 24 recently appointed judicial and technical members of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT). This decision comes after delays raised by the NCLT Bar Association regarding the posting of the inducted members.
A government notification outlined the assignments, emphasizing adherence to Rule 15A of the NCLT (Salary, Allowances, and Other Terms and Conditions of Service of Members) Rules, 2015. In collaboration with the NCLT President, the allocation of members to specific benches was made, and appointees were instructed to assume office promptly.

Resolving Delays
The appointments, originally notified in January, faced criticism due to delays in posting members despite their completion of the induction program. This resolution aims to ensure a swift transition, enabling the appointees to begin their duties immediately.
Terms of Service
The members will serve a five-year tenure or until reaching the age of sixty-five, whichever comes first. The government’s directive underscores the urgency of their assumption of charge to ensure the tribunal’s effective functioning.
This development addresses lingering concerns and sets the stage for a strengthened judicial and technical framework within the NCLT.
