Web of Deception: Court Orders CBI Probe Into False Cases Racket

The Allahabad High Court has ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into a disturbing pattern of false criminal complaints allegedly orchestrated by a woman and her lawyer to extort money from multiple individuals.

A bench comprising Justices Brij Raj Singh and Vivek Chaudhary uncovered the scheme while hearing a plea from an individual seeking protection from arrest. The petitioner was accused in a case filed on January 30 under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act.

The Court found that the complainant, Pooja Rawat, had filed at least 11 similar cases previously, always through the same legal representative, Parmanand Gupta. The latest complaint marked her 12th attempt, raising serious concerns about an ongoing pattern of fraudulent legal action.

“It is apparent that the informant and her counsel are colluding to lodge false FIRs against multiple individuals for serious offences, solely to extract money. This latest FIR appears to be another attempt to create pressure,” the Court noted.

The State counsel confirmed that several complaints of a similar nature had been filed, reinforcing suspicions of a coordinated extortion scheme. In light of these revelations, the Court directed the CBI to investigate and submit a report by April 10 while granting protection from arrest to the petitioners.
