The Bombay High Court has dismissed a petition seeking an investigation into bank guarantees issued for the ₹16,000 crore Borivali-Thane Twin Tube Tunnel project, rejecting claims of irregularities involving Megha Engineering & Infrastructure Ltd (MEIL).
The petition, filed in October 2024, called for a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or a Special Investigation Team (SIT), alleging fraudulent guarantees issued in favor of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). However, the court found no merit in the allegations and refused to entertain the plea.
MEIL, backed by legal heavyweights, argued that the petition was based on misleading information and motivated by personal grievances rather than genuine public interest. The Union government also opposed the plea, warning against setting a precedent that could lead to misuse of legal proceedings.
The petitioner’s legal team insisted the case raised legitimate concerns over fairness in the tendering process, particularly regarding MEIL’s financial dealings, including its purchase of electoral bonds from multiple political parties. Despite these arguments, the court dismissed the case, closing the door on further legal scrutiny of the matter.
