A man once entrusted with upholding the law has died by suicide, leaving behind a wreckage of unresolved allegations, broken trust, and a legal fraternity reeling from shock.
PG Manu, who once held the post of Senior Government Pleader in Kerala, was found dead in his Kollam residence—his life cut short just as another storm of accusations was beginning to gather force.
Manu had already been facing serious criminal charges. In 2023, a woman who had approached him for legal help accused him of raping her inside his office. According to her complaint, Manu not only sexually assaulted her but also leaked private photos in a calculated act of digital violation. An FIR followed under sections of rape and the Information Technology Act. The fallout was swift—Manu resigned from his government post, and his bid for anticipatory bail was rejected by both the Kerala High Court and the Supreme Court. He was arrested and later released on bail in March 2023, with strict conditions, including a prohibition against committing any further offences.
But the embers hadn’t cooled.
Last week, a disturbing video began circulating among Kerala’s legal community. In it, Manu is confronted by a furious man who accuses him of raping his wife—the woman had also approached Manu for legal assistance. The allegation: Manu manipulated her trust and sexually assaulted her. The video, raw and accusatory, spread fast. A new police complaint seemed imminent. If filed, it would not only bring a fresh set of charges but likely see Manu back in custody—this time, with his bail revoked for breaching its terms.
Before that could happen, Manu was found dead.
There was no note, but the message was clear: the walls were closing in. With legal consequences looming and another public scandal erupting, the man once clad in black robes of justice chose to vanish into silence, leaving a system to question how it let this unravel so far, so quietly.
