A grim shadow has fallen over South Calcutta Law College, where a law student has accused three men—including a former student turned lawyer and two staffers—of gang-raping her within the campus walls. What was once a place of learning now bears the weight of a brutal accusation.
The alleged assault took place on June 25 between 7:30 PM and 10:50 PM inside the college premises. According to a formal complaint lodged with Kolkata Police, one of the men carried out a penetrative sexual assault, while two others are believed to have been complicit.
Acting on the complaint, authorities arrested the former student and one staff member near Talbagan Crossing on June 26. The third suspect was taken into custody the following day from his residence. All three of their mobile phones have been seized, which investigators believe may contain digital evidence.
On Friday, the accused were produced before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate in Alipore. The court ordered four days of police custody for further interrogation.
The identities of the accused have been partially withheld, with the police referring to them only as J, M, and P. Investigators remain tight-lipped, but sources suggest that digital forensics and CCTV footage may play a crucial role in what is expected to be a high-profile case.
