Boomerang Moves: Ambarish and Tanavi Mohanty Circle Back to Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas

In a corporate legal world where exits and entries play like chess moves, Ambarish and Tanavi Mohanty have made a calculated return to familiar ground—Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co (SAM)—after a brief stint at JSA.

This high-powered duo is back in SAM’s Mumbai office as Partners in the General Corporate Practice. For Ambarish, the return comes with an equity partner tag, underscoring his deep entrenchment in India’s M&A ecosystem. With a career built on orchestrating billion-dollar deals, public and private, across a tapestry of industries—from listed company mergers to shaping regulatory frameworks—his comeback adds heft to the firm’s already formidable corporate bench.

Tanavi Mohanty brings her own sharp edge. With a playbook rich in complex private equity deals and strategic M&As across tech, healthcare, retail, renewables, and beyond, she returns to SAM with the same Partner designation, poised to re-anchor her cross-sectoral dealmaking prowess.

Their return has been welcomed by the firm’s leadership with open arms and corporate diplomacy. Managing Partner Pallavi Shroff called their expertise “deep” and their approach “client-centric,” while Akshay Chudasama lauded their “proven track record” and the strengthening of SAM’s corporate advisory muscle.

Interestingly, the Mohantys had left SAM just last year, part of a larger lateral shift that also involved Iqbal Khan and others moving to JSA. Now, in a full-circle move, they’ve opted for a homecoming that realigns them with one of India’s top-tier corporate law firms.

Back at SAM, back in the game—this time, with even more on the table.
