In its latest round of appointments, the Supreme Court Collegium has given the green light to elevate Judicial Officer Vinai Kumar Dwivedi to the Allahabad High Court.
The recommendation, confirmed through a statement uploaded on the Supreme Court’s official website, followed the Collegium’s meeting held on October 6, 2025.
“The Supreme Court Collegium has approved the proposal for appointment of Shri Vinai Kumar Dwivedi, Judicial Officer, as a Judge of the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad,” the statement read.
The Allahabad High Court, one of the country’s largest, continues to operate under a significant shortfall—107 judges currently preside over a sanctioned strength of 160. The Centre had recently cleared 24 new judicial appointments, aiming to ease the mounting workload on the court’s benches.
Dwivedi’s elevation, once cleared by the government, will be another step toward narrowing that gap.
