The Delhi High Court has tightened the rules governing entry of law students who intern with advocates, limiting court access to students in the senior years of their law courses.
Under a circular issued by the High Court, entry passes and identity cards will now be provided only to final-year students enrolled in the three-year LLB programme and fourth- and fifth-year students pursuing a five-year integrated LLB course.
The revised policy means students in the earlier years of either programme will no longer be eligible for entry passes to the court premises under the internship arrangement.
Documents required for an entry ID
Students seeking an ID card will have to submit several documents along with their internship request. These include:
- A recommendation letter from the advocate with whom the student is interning, mentioning the advocate’s enrolment number.
- A photocopy of the advocate’s Bar ID card.
- A photocopy of the intern’s Aadhaar card.
- A photocopy of the student’s college identity card.
- Two stamp-size photographs of the intern.
The new eligibility criteria effectively reserve internship-related access to the High Court premises for students who are closer to completing their law degrees.
