Gujarat High Court Quashes FIR Over Recording Police

The Gujarat High Court has quashed a criminal case against lawyer and social activist Mehul Mansukhbhai Boghara, finding that video footage contradicted allegations that he obstructed or assaulted police personnel during a roadside encounter.

In its 14 October 2026 judgment, the court said the recording showed no aggressive gesture or use of force by Boghara. It found the police version of attempted extortion inherently implausible and noted that he was the person injured in the episode.

The court held that the complaint disclosed none of the essential ingredients of offences under sections 332, 353, 385 and 427 of the Indian Penal Code or the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. It quashed the FIR and all consequential proceedings against him.
