In an innovative move, the Kerala High Court has rolled out an e-Post service in partnership with India Post to expedite the delivery of legal documents, including court summons, notices, and orders. This pioneering initiative, currently in its trial phase in Thiruvananthapuram, is expected to expand to other districts across the state.
The e-Post service introduces a hybrid method of document delivery. Advocates can utilize this service when a court orders delivery through e-Post or Speed Post, or when no specific delivery method is indicated. However, if Registered Post is mandated by the court, the e-Post option is not applicable.
The process begins with the court sending a digitally signed notice to the e-Post nodal office corresponding to the recipient’s pin code. The postal department then downloads and delivers the notice to the recipient within one day of dispatch to the postal dashboard.
This pilot project in Thiruvananthapuram will soon be expanded statewide, aiming to enhance the efficiency of legal document delivery.
The High Court’s circular detailing the launch includes comprehensive guidelines for advocates, e-filers, and judicial sections. These guidelines offer step-by-step instructions to ensure proper filing, payment, verification, and delivery of notices through the e-Post service.
