Following a hiatus due to the Supreme Court’s summer break, the Collegium, led by Chief Justice Dr. DY Chandrachud along with Justices Sanjiv Khanna and BR Gavai, convened on July 9, 2024. They deliberated on several significant resolutions, chiefly recommending the appointment of Permanent Judges for the Bombay and Delhi High Courts. Additionally, the Collegium decided to extend the terms of two Additional Judges at the Bombay High Court.
For Bombay High Court, the recommended Permanent Judges include Justice Santosh Govindrao Chapalgaonkar, Justice Milind Manohar Sathaye, Dr. Justice Neela Kedar Gokhale, Justice Yanshivraj Gopichand Khobragade, Justice Mahendra Wadhumal Chandwani, Justice Abhay Sopanrao Waghwase, and Justice Ravindra Madhusudan Joshi. Moreover, the terms of Additional Judges Justice Sanjay Anandrao Deshmukh and Justice Vrushali Vijay Joshi are set to be extended for another year, effective from October 7, 2024.
In a parallel decision for Delhi High Court, the Collegium recommended Justice Girish Kathpalia, Justice Manoj Jain, and Justice Dharmesh Sharma for appointment as Permanent Judges.
These resolutions mark a pivotal moment in judicial appointments, underscoring the Collegium’s commitment to enhancing the judiciary’s efficiency and capacity across these key High Courts.
