Law Students Clash in Midnight Chaos, Bail Denied by Delhi High Court

In a recent ruling, the Delhi High Court expressed deep concern over a violent brawl involving law students from Delhi University. Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma, while rejecting the anticipatory bail plea of one of the accused, emphasized the gravity of such incidents, highlighting that future legal professionals engaging in such behavior is alarming.

The court case stemmed from a late-night fight where law students, allegedly armed with hockey sticks, lathis, and iron rods, attacked their peers. The petitioner sought bail, claiming he only used his fists and inflicted minor injuries. However, his allegations that a senior judicial officer was influencing the investigation were met with severe disapproval from the court.

Justice Sharma stated, “It is deeply troubling that those who will become lawyers and law officers are involved in such altercations. These incidents require thorough examination and investigation.” The court dismissed the bail plea, noting that approving it would send the wrong message about accountability and the seriousness of such offenses.

Advocates Suresh Chandra Sati, Satish Chandra, and Naresh Kumar represented the petitioner, while Assistant Public Prosecutor Raghvinder Verma appeared for the State. Advocates Rakesh Chahar, Shweta Dhingra, Hazel Bhardwaj, Satpal Singh, Harshdeep Kocchar, and Vaishali Chaudhary represented the complainant.
