The Calcutta High Court Bar Association has taken a firm stand, ceasing all judicial proceedings after a lawyer was brutally assaulted by police. Advocate Sourav Mandal faced a vicious attack by sub-inspector Sudipto Sanyal at the Nepalganj police outpost while representing a client.
In an emergency meeting on July 22, the Association declared a complete boycott of court activities, demanding immediate suspension and action against the responsible police officers. Their resolution reads, “Members of the Bar resolve to abstain from judicial proceedings until the offending officer is suspended and appropriate measures are taken against the involved personnel.”
Mandal, subjected to threats of false charges and possible narcotic cases, has lodged a formal complaint, supported by medical documents and a request to preserve CCTV footage from the outpost. In response, the Association has rallied its members, calling for justice and a boycott until the police comply with their demands.
