Hailing originally from the High Court of Orissa, Dr. Justice Sarangi brings with him a distinguished career spanning 27 years of legal practice before the High Court of Orissa and the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court Collegium’s recommendation on December 27, 2023, paved the way for Dr. Justice Sarangi’s appointment, recognizing the need for continuity and expertise in leadership following Justice Mishra’s tenure. This decision not only fills a crucial vacancy but also ensures representation from the High Court of Orissa among the Chief Justices of various High Courts across the nation.
As of July 3, 2024, the Ministry of Law and Justice formalized this appointment under Article 217(1) of the Constitution of India. Dr. Justice B.R. Sarangi is set to assume office imminently, poised to uphold the principles of justice and uphold the integrity of the judiciary in Jharkhand.
