Arvind Datar Honored with Inaugural Fali Nariman Memorial Award

Senior Advocate Arvind P. Datar has been recognized as the first recipient of the Fali Nariman Memorial Award, an honor established to celebrate the enduring contributions of the legendary jurist.

Instituted by BITS Law School, Mumbai, in collaboration with Surana & Surana International Attorneys, the award pays tribute to Fali S. Nariman’s towering legacy in constitutional law, judicial independence, and legal ethics.

Upon receiving the award, Datar lauded the initiative, calling it a fitting homage to Nariman’s lifelong dedication to the legal profession.

Former Chief Justice of India, Justice U.U. Lalit, who presided over the ceremony, remarked that Datar was the most deserving choice for this prestigious recognition. The Founding Dean of BITS Law School, Mumbai, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the alignment of Nariman’s values with the institution’s vision for legal education.

The selection process for the award saw an extensive review of nominations, culminating in a distinguished jury unanimously choosing Datar. The ceremony concluded with a thought-provoking discussion on innovation in legal education, featuring legal luminaries who shared insights on the evolving landscape of the profession.
