Delhi High Court Protects Surgeon From Deepfake Medical Claims

The Delhi High Court has permanently restrained online misuse of cardiac surgeon Devi Prasad Shetty’s name, image, voice and likeness in fabricated medical endorsements.

The suit concerned AI-generated and deepfake material that falsely attributed health claims and cures to the surgeon while also using trademarks associated with Narayana Health.

The court made its earlier injunction and takedown directions absolute. It allowed the plaintiffs to notify platforms of later substantially similar links through an affidavit, requiring action in accordance with law.

The judgment recognised the risk that manipulated medical content could exploit public trust in a prominent doctor and mislead patients. The plaintiffs did not press damages or costs, and their request for a declaration concerning a well-known mark was reserved.
