Calcutta High Court Denies Anticipatory Bail in Festival Ticket Case

The Calcutta High Court on 15 October rejected former West Bengal minister Indranil Sen’s anticipatory-bail plea in a case alleging public deception through festival-preview tickets and misuse of government tenders. The court said State material concerning his family’s association with the society and entities awarded departmental contracts disclosed possible abuse of office and trappings of corruption that could not be ruled out during investigation. Documentary custody and his no longer being a minister did not eliminate the claimed need for custodial interrogation.
