Supreme Court Orders Fresh Auction of Chandigarh Hospital Site

The Supreme Court on 16 October set aside a Punjab and Haryana High Court ruling that restored a ₹12.58 crore bid for a Chandigarh nursing-home site. The administration had cancelled that result after the adjacent plot fetched ₹18.25 crore; a later auction produced ₹18.30 crore. Holding that a public authority may revisit an auction to maximise value before an enforceable contract arises, the Court ordered a fresh e-auction within three months.

Judge / Bench — Justice Pamidighantam Sri Narasimha and Justice Alok Aradhe.

Advocates appearing — For the private appellant — Guru Krishna Kumar, Senior Counsel. For Chandigarh Administration — Vikramjit Banerjee, Additional Solicitor General. For Bedi Hospital — P. S. Patwalia, Senior Counsel.
