Madhya Pradesh High Court Preserves Dowry Case Against Husband, Quashes Relatives’ Prosecution

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has refused to quash a cruelty and dowry case against a husband, while ending the prosecution of two sisters-in-law and the mother-in-law because the allegations against them were vague and general.

Judge / Bench — Justice Pramod Kumar Agrawal.

The 24 September 2026 order said a husband’s earlier application for restitution of conjugal rights does not by itself make a later criminal complaint a counterblast. The complaint contained specific allegations against the husband; civil or matrimonial proceedings do not automatically terminate an independent criminal case. The court made no finding of guilt.

Advocates appearing — For the petitioners — Vivek Kumar Pandey. For respondent 1/State — Ravindra Shukla, Deputy Government Advocate. For respondent 2 — Mansoori Shakeel Ahmad.
