Crisis in the Corridors: Bengaluru Lawyers Sound Alarm on Judicial Corruption

The Advocates’ Association of Bengaluru (AAB) is set to hold a special general body meeting on March 24, cracking open a conversation the judiciary would rather keep quiet—systemic corruption at the highest levels of justice.

What triggered this urgent gathering? Two explosive episodes: a fire at the residence of Delhi High Court Justice Yashwanth Verma that led to the shocking discovery of unaccounted cash, and a scandal in the Karnataka Assembly swirling with honey trap allegations involving members of the judiciary.

The AAB is preparing a resolution aimed at shaking the system from its roots. Among its demands: that the Supreme Court Collegium stop looking the other way and create a transparent, ironclad system to oust judges caught in the web of corruption.

Also on the agenda—calls for sweeping reforms, including mandatory asset disclosures by judges, fast-track removal procedures for those found guilty, and the application of anti-money laundering laws to corruption cases inside the judiciary.

The association also plans to confront a growing concern within the Karnataka High Court: an unusual spike in “part-heard” labels in second appeal cases by a particular judge. The AAB believes this practice is gumming up the system and intends to push for an intervention from the Chief Justice to restore procedural flow.

In short, the AAB isn’t just calling a meeting—it’s lighting a match under a system that many say has grown too comfortable in the shadows.
