In an unusual turn of justice, the Delhi High Court decided that two men facing charges of intimidation and causing hurt will walk free—on one condition. They must host community feasts for underprivileged children during Navratri and Diwali.
Justice Anish Dayal, while quashing the FIR, made the ruling conditional upon the accused organizing a bhandara at a local temple in Radheypuri. At least fifty children are to be fed at each event—one during the Navratri festivities, the other on Diwali.
The Court’s order went further, requiring photographic proof of the feasts to be submitted as evidence of compliance.
The FIR in question, registered in 2020 at Jagatpuri police station, accused the petitioners of offences under Sections 324 and 506 of the IPC. With the complainant reaching a settlement, the Court weighed the futility of continuing the prosecution. Justice Dayal observed that the likelihood of conviction was “remote and bleak,” and pursuing the case would only waste public resources.
Thus, with compassion intertwined with accountability, the case was closed—leaving the accused to trade courtroom appearances for temple kitchens this festive season.
