Delhi High Court Appoints Dheeraj Mor as Special Judge for High-Profile Coal Block Cases

In a key judicial move, the Delhi High Court has named Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Dheeraj Mor as the Special Judge to oversee the ongoing coal block allocation cases, which have been under intense scrutiny for alleged illegalities in the process.

This appointment follows the transfer of Special Judge Arun Bhardwaj, who now assumes the role of the HC Registrar General. The change in judicial assignments was confirmed by the Supreme Court on April 8, as part of their ongoing oversight in the high-stakes case involving the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) probe into coal block irregularities.

Mor’s transition to this pivotal role at the Patiala House Courts comes as part of a broader effort to ensure a focused approach to the cases tied to the controversial coal block allocations. The Supreme Court’s directive on April 21 marks a significant moment in the continuing legal proceedings that have stemmed from the coal scam, which dates back to a series of allocations made since 1993.

The Supreme Court had already struck down 214 coal block allocations in 2014, further fueling the investigation and the need for a dedicated special court to handle the mounting cases.
