Delhi High Court Benches Its Own: Trial Judge Suspended, Inquiry Looms

A sudden move from the Delhi High Court has sent ripples through the judicial corridors—trial court judge Sanjeev Kumar Singh has been suspended with immediate effect, pending disciplinary proceedings.

The order, signed on August 29 by Registrar General Arun Bhardwaj, offers no clarity on the reasons behind the action but makes it plain that an inquiry is on the horizon.

During the suspension, Singh’s movements are tightly restricted. His official headquarters will remain the office of the Principal District & Sessions Judge at Saket, and he cannot leave Delhi without prior clearance from the competent authority.

The court invoked its powers under the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969, read with the Delhi Higher Judicial Service Rules, 1970, to impose the suspension.

For now, Judge Singh stands sidelined, the cloud of disciplinary scrutiny hanging heavy above.
