Delhi High Court Halts Arvind Kejriwal’s Bail Amid Liquor Policy Controversy

The Delhi High Court has temporarily halted the bail granted to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Rouse Avenue Court. This decision follows a plea from the Directorate of Enforcement (ED), which contested the late-night bail order from June 20, 2024, claiming it was issued without giving them a fair chance to present their objections.

The case revolves around allegations of money laundering tied to the Delhi Excise liquor policy scam. On June 21, 2024, Justice Sudhir Kumar Jain reserved his verdict, stating a detailed order would be issued within the next two to three days. Until then, the trial court’s decision to grant bail will not be in effect.

The ED’s counsel argued that the swift pronouncement of the bail order deprived them of an opportunity to adequately oppose it. Justice Jain, considering the arguments, decided to impose an interim stay, ensuring that Kejriwal remains without bail until a comprehensive order is finalized.

The upcoming detailed order will provide further clarity on the legal standing and the next steps in this high-profile case.
