Delhi High Court Initiates Contempt Proceedings Against SpiceJet Over Aircraft Lease Dispute

The Delhi High Court has taken a stern stance against SpiceJet, initiating contempt proceedings against the airline and its unnamed directors. This legal action stems from SpiceJet’s alleged failure to fully comply with court orders mandating the return of two aircraft and three engines to lessor TWC Aviation.

The court, led by Justices Rajiv Shakdher and Amit Bansal, directed SpiceJet’s legal representatives to provide the directors’ names for the registry to proceed with the contempt case. This development follows the High Court’s earlier directive in May 2024, which mandated the return of leased assets claimed by TWC Aviation.

Despite SpiceJet’s claims of partial compliance, citing the positioning of engines and aircraft frames for handover, the court found the airline’s efforts insufficient, prompting the issuance of a contempt notice. The case is scheduled for further proceedings on July 19.

This legal clash underscores ongoing tensions between SpiceJet and TWC Aviation, highlighting the complexities of lease agreements and compliance with judicial directives in the aviation sector.
