The Delhi High Court has permitted a 64-year-old accused to travel abroad for her son’s wedding, while imposing a ₹2 lakh school-furniture donation for her prolonged delay in surrendering her passport.
The Court upheld the validity of the original bail condition requiring deposit of the passport. It nevertheless granted limited relief after noting her apology, permanent residence, lack of other antecedents and the absence of any foreign travel during the period of non-compliance.
Before release of the passport, she must contact a government school and obtain its requirement for furniture or essential items. The donation must be completed within four weeks of her return, with proof filed before the trial court. She must surrender the passport within seven days after returning. The order balances enforcement of bail conditions with a time-bound family purpose, using a voluntarily offered community measure rather than treating the default as inconsequential.
