From Sultanpur to the Bench: Justice C.D. Singh Returns to Allahabad High Court

Justice Chandra Dhari Singh has come full circle. Once an advocate carving his path in courtrooms across the country, he now returns to his roots in Uttar Pradesh as a Judge of the Allahabad High Court.

On April 7, 2025, Justice Singh took the oath at Allahabad High Court, marking yet another chapter in a legal career defined by range, resolve, and a relentless pursuit of justice. His transfer from the Delhi High Court had been greenlit by the Supreme Court Collegium back in November 2024, later confirmed by the Ministry of Law and Justice earlier this year.

Born on July 13, 1969, in Sultanpur, Justice Singh’s early legal footsteps began at Delhi University, where he earned his law degree in 1993. Never one to stop learning, he also completed his LL.M. via distance education from National Law University, Jodhpur. He joined the legal fraternity formally on July 20, 1994, and passed the Advocate-on-Record exam in 2001, gaining the right to practice before the Supreme Court.

From constitutional battles to industrial disputes, his legal canvas has been expansive—original side matters, service law, labour disputes, electricity law, arbitration, and more. His client roster reads like a who’s who of Indian institutions: from states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Jharkhand to entities like the Steel Authority of India, CSIR, Coal India, and the Airport Authority.

He’s held pivotal roles too—Additional Advocate General for Chhattisgarh, Senior Panel Counsel for the Union of India, Standing Counsel for multiple states. His representation extended into academia, science, aviation, and beyond.

Justice Singh was first appointed as an Additional Judge at Allahabad High Court in 2017. He became a Permanent Judge in 2019 before being transferred to Delhi High Court in October 2021. Now, he returns—not just as a jurist, but as a symbol of legal tenacity grounded in decades of frontline experience.

This isn’t just a transfer. It’s a homecoming.
