The Calcutta High Court has directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the disturbing case of a 31-year-old junior doctor from RG Kar Medical College Hospital. The court’s decision came in response to a petition from the doctor’s parents, who accused the college administration of attempting to “cover up” the rape and murder of their daughter.
In an order issued by a division bench led by Justices T. S. Sivagnanam and H. Bhattacharyya, the CBI has been instructed to take over the investigation immediately. The State government has been directed to transfer all relevant case files to the CBI. This tragic incident has sparked significant outrage and protests among the medical community in Kolkata, demanding justice and transparency.
