J&K High Court Cracks Down on Casual Dressing, Orders Staff to Stick to Uniforms

The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has drawn a firm line against casual attire in its corridors, insisting that every officer, staff member, and support worker must appear in the designated uniform while on duty.

In a circular issued by the officiating Registrar General, MK Sharma, the Court expressed displeasure over employees showing up in everyday casuals, calling it a breach of discipline that disrupts the dignity and functioning of the institution.

The directive leaves little room for ambiguity: everyone on the rolls — from gazetted officers to clerical staff, IT personnel, orderlies, ushers, drivers, and personal staff of registry officers — must follow the prescribed dress code without exception.

The notice, dated August 12, sternly warns that those who disregard the rulebook risk disciplinary consequences. To ensure compliance, controlling officers have been tasked with strict enforcement of the uniform mandate.

In short, the High Court has made it clear — its halls are no place for casuals.
