In a fresh round of judicial maneuvers, the Supreme Court Collegium has set in motion a series of appointments and transfers impacting the High Courts of Chhattisgarh, Punjab & Haryana, Gujarat, and Allahabad. The resolutions, passed on March 19 and 20, lay out a mix of confirmations, fresh tenures, and strategic transfers designed to strengthen benches across the country.
Chhattisgarh High Court
A one-year extension has been recommended for three Additional Judges—Justice Sachin Singh Rajput, Justice Radhakishan Agrawal, and Justice Sanjay Kumar Jaiswal. Their continuation signals continuity in the court’s functioning while awaiting potential elevation or permanency.
Punjab & Haryana High Court
The Collegium has moved to convert the status of three Additional Judges into Permanent Judges. Justice Sumeet Goel, Justice Sudeepti Sharma, and Justice Kirti Singh are now on track to shed the “additional” tag and join the ranks of permanent judicial authority in the region.
Gujarat High Court
A major infusion of new blood is headed to the Gujarat bench. Eight judicial officers have been recommended for elevation as High Court Judges:
- Liyakathussain Shamsuddin Pirzada
- Ramchandra Thakurdas Vachhani
- Jayesh Lakhanshibhai Odedra
- Pranav Maheshbhai Raval
- Mool Chand Tyagi
- Dipak Mansukhlal Vyas
- Utkarsh Thakorbhai Desai
- Rohenkumar Kundanlal Chudawala
This move marks one of the more substantial additions to a single High Court in recent Collegium actions.
Allahabad High Court
In a significant transfer, Justice Arindam Sinha has been recommended for relocation from the Orissa High Court to the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad. Transfers of this nature are typically orchestrated for administrative reasons or to balance workloads across courts.
As these recommendations await formal notifications, the judicial map of India is already shifting. The Collegium’s latest push reinforces its role not just as a gatekeeper, but as an active architect of the country’s higher judiciary.
