A new chapter unfolds for the Manipur High Court as Justice D. Krishnakumar, a distinguished figure from the Madras High Court, is poised to assume the role of Chief Justice. The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended his appointment, effective upon the retirement of Chief Justice Siddharth Mridul on November 21.
Justice Krishnakumar’s legal journey began with his appointment to the Madras High Court in April 2016. Known for his expertise in constitutional law and a breadth of experience in civil, service, and constitutional matters, he has earned recognition as the senior-most puisne judge at the Madras High Court.
The Collegium, in its resolution, emphasized the necessity of regional representation and noted that Justice Krishnakumar’s appointment aligns with a balanced approach to leadership across high courts. Hailing from a Backward Community, his elevation further reflects the judiciary’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Justice Krishnakumar is slated to retire in May 2025, leaving him a brief yet significant tenure to shape the judicial landscape of Manipur. His expertise and experience promise a steady hand at the helm of the court during this transitional period.
