Justice on Fast-Forward: National Lok Adalat Clears Over 3 Crore Cases, Unlocks ₹18,212 Crore in Settlements

In a sweeping display of judicial efficiency, the first National Lok Adalat of 2025 has chalked up a staggering feat—over 3.09 crore cases resolved in a single coordinated push across 37 states and union territories.

Helmed by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), this countrywide effort didn’t just move files—it moved lives. With a disposal rate of 79.01%, the Lok Adalat tackled 2.58 crore pre-litigation cases and cleared 50.82 lakh pending matters, easing the weight on India’s overwhelmed legal machinery.

The financial implications were just as massive. Settlements tallied up to ₹18,212.23 crore—an infusion of relief for individuals, families, and institutions long caught in the dragnet of disputes.

Uttar Pradesh led the charge in raw numbers of cases cleared, while Jharkhand stole the spotlight with a mind-blowing 99.95% disposal rate.

This massive legal mobilisation unfolded under the guidance of Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, Patron-in-Chief of NALSA, and Supreme Court Justice BR Gavai, its Executive Chairman. Justice Gavai hailed the moment as a testament to the unwavering push to make justice not just accessible, but swift.

But beyond the statistics and spreadsheets, the Lok Adalat has left a deeper imprint—softening hard legal battles into resolutions, healing frayed relationships, and giving litigants the one thing courts often struggle to provide: peace of mind.
