Justice Shree Chandrashekhar Set to Take Helm at Bombay High Court

The Supreme Court Collegium has cleared the path for Justice Shree Chandrashekhar to become the next Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, one of the country’s oldest and most influential benches.

The recommendation came through a resolution passed on August 25, confirming his elevation. Justice Chandrashekhar, originally from the Jharkhand High Court, joined the Bombay High Court in July this year after a brief stint at the Rajasthan High Court.

A lawyer by training since 1993, he built a career spanning nearly two decades at the Supreme Court, where he argued thousands of cases—many of them leaving a mark in reported judgments. He represented government institutions such as the AICTE, the State of Jharkhand, and several statutory boards, alongside corporate and private litigants.

In January 2013, he took his first judicial oath as an additional judge at the Jharkhand High Court, later securing permanency in 2014. By December 2023, he was entrusted with the role of Acting Chief Justice of that court, before moving through the Rajasthan High Court and finally arriving in Mumbai.

If formally appointed, Justice Chandrashekhar will now steer the Bombay High Court at a pivotal time, carrying forward his reputation for diligence and depth of judicial experience.
