The Karnataka High Court has made it unmistakably clear: the trial against suspended JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna will march forward. A prior stay order—widely misunderstood—was only for his father, HD Revanna, and doesn’t shield Prajwal from prosecution in the rape case involving a domestic worker.
The Court’s clarification comes amid a vortex of legal trouble surrounding Prajwal Revanna, who faces four criminal cases. The most damning: a digital trail of over 2,900 graphic videos showing alleged sexual assaults, many of which were reportedly circulated online. One such case alleges the kidnapping and rape of a domestic worker—a case where both Revannas are named co-accused.
While HD Revanna secured bail back in May 2024 for two separate cases—one for sexual assault and the other for kidnapping—he’s still fighting to get the charges quashed. The High Court had earlier frozen proceedings against him alone in the sexual assault case, a fact now firmly underlined by Justice SR Krishna Kumar. That interim order, extended multiple times, does not extend to his son.
The Court also briefly addressed Prajwal Revanna’s second bid for bail—his first attempt having been rejected by both the High Court and the Supreme Court. His legal team argued that he’s languished in jail for over a year without substantial movement in the case. The next hearing on his bail plea is slated for June 24.
Meanwhile, HD Revanna’s quash petition returns to the High Court on July 4. His kidnapping case, it’s worth noting, was stayed earlier this year.
As the legal threads unravel separately for father and son, one thing is clear: the courtroom doors remain wide open for Prajwal Revanna’s trial to proceed.
