Mumbai NCLT Deputy Registrar Nabbed in ₹3 Lakh Bribery Sting

The wheels of justice turned swiftly as the Central Bureau of Investigation apprehended Charan Pratap Singh, Deputy Registrar at the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) Mumbai Bench, on allegations of bribery. The catch? A ₹3 lakh payoff promised to tip the scales in a tangled property dispute.

The saga began with a hotel owner locked in a bitter battle with his siblings over ownership rights—a case that has lingered in Court No. IV of the NCLT since late 2020. Earlier this month, Singh allegedly stepped in, dangling the promise of favorable influence in exchange for ₹3.5 lakh. After some haggling, the price was brought down to ₹3 lakh.

But the complainant wasn’t playing along blindly. The CBI set a careful trap. On May 29, they swooped in just as an associate was caught clutching the cash—₹1 lakh real, ₹2 lakh fake, set to seal the sting. The net closed tighter with Singh himself taken into custody during follow-up operations.

The investigation is now reaching into multiple hideouts across Mumbai and Lucknow, seeking more clues and potentially more accomplices in this shadowy dance of power and payoffs. The message is clear: attempts to corrupt the judicial process will meet with relentless pursuit.
