No Bail for Kapoor: Delhi High Court Upholds Terror Funding Charges

The Delhi High Court has refused bail to Naval Kishore Kapoor, arrested in 2018 by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for allegedly channeling funds to support terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

A division bench ruled that sufficient evidence pointed to Kapoor’s involvement in funneling money through fake companies in the UAE to separatist groups in the Valley. The court found reasonable grounds to believe the allegations against him, citing his role in a broader conspiracy alongside co-accused Zahoor Watali.

The investigation, launched in 2017, revealed a network allegedly working to finance secessionist activities. Kapoor’s bail plea was rejected based on concerns over potential flight risk and the possibility of tampering with evidence.

The court also highlighted that once charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) are framed, the threshold for granting bail becomes significantly higher. Given the weight of the accusations and prior Supreme Court rulings on related cases, the bench saw no merit in Kapoor’s request for release.
