Pune Horror: Woman Raped in Parked Bus Near Police Station, Accused Caught Hiding in Sugarcane Field

A Pune court has remanded 32-year-old Dattatray Ramdas Gade to 12 days of police custody in connection with the rape of a woman inside a stationary Shivshahi bus at the MSRTC Swargate terminus.

Gade, who had been on the run since the early hours of February 25, was captured from his village in Shirur Taluka at around 1:30 a.m. after police tracked him to a sugarcane field.

The attack occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. when the 26-year-old survivor, a preoperative counselor at a city hospital, was assaulted inside the parked bus—shockingly located just across from the Swargate police station. The woman reported the crime to authorities by 9:30 a.m., and an FIR was registered later that day.

The Swargate bus terminus, one of Pune’s busiest transport hubs, has now come under scrutiny over security concerns, as the brutal incident unfolded in a high-visibility area meant to be under police surveillance.
