A Delhi court has found former Congress leader Sajjan Kumar guilty in a case linked to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, convicting him for the murder of Jaswant Singh and his son Tarun Deep Singh. The verdict, delivered by Special Judge Kaveri Baweja, comes decades after the violent events that left thousands dead.
Kumar, already serving a life sentence in another riot-related case, faced charges including murder, rioting, dacoity, and instigating mob violence. The court has scheduled February 18 for arguments on sentencing.
According to the prosecution, Kumar led a massive mob in West Delhi’s Raj Nagar on November 1, 1984, orchestrating attacks that resulted in the deaths of the father and son. The case gained traction after a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed in 2015, leading to fresh testimonies and Kumar’s arrest in 2021.
The conviction marks another significant ruling in the long-running pursuit of justice for the victims of the 1984 riots.
