In a rare move near the Indo-Pak border, the clatter of legal proceedings will go quiet as both the Amritsar District Court and Ajnala Sub-Divisional Court shut their gates to the public from May 9 to 14.
The decision, handed down by the Punjab & Haryana High Court, is aimed squarely at thinning out footfall. Only a skeletal crew of judges and court staff will remain inside the premises — just 50% of the personnel allowed on-site at a time, working in rotation.
While courtrooms will technically remain operational, their pulse will be faint. The usual daily crowd — litigants, clerks, petitioners, and lawyers — will be absent.
This isn’t a holiday; it’s a hush.
