The Bombay High Court’s strength has grown, with six additional judges now confirmed as permanent members of the bench.
The notification came from the Central government, following the Supreme Court Collegium’s nod on August 25. Those elevated include:
-
Justice Sanjay Anandrao Deshmukh
-
Justice Vrushali Vijay Joshi
-
Justice Abhay Jainarayanji Mantri
-
Justice Shyam Chhaganlal Chandak
-
Justice Neeraj Pradeep Dhote
-
Justice Somasekhar Sundaresan
Deshmukh and Joshi had entered the bench as additional judges in October 2022. Mantri, Chandak, and Dhote followed a year later in October 2023. Sundaresan’s appointment came in November 2023, after a long wait despite repeated recommendations from the Collegium.
With this confirmation, all six now hold permanent positions, strengthening the High Court’s judicial ranks.
