In a striking judgment, the Supreme Court has thrown out a rape case filed by a woman against a man who withdrew from their planned marriage, calling her behavior a “bundle of lies” driven by manipulation and revenge rather than genuine grievance.
The ruling came from a bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta, who examined the woman’s communication history and found disturbing patterns—admissions of exploiting men, using threats to pressure others into marriage, and even boasting about cycling through romantic “victims” to reach her goals.
The woman, described by the Court as educated and an adult fully capable of making her own decisions, had filed two separate FIRs—each progressively escalating in accusations. Initially, her complaint made no mention of caste-based abuse or multiple sexual assaults. These allegations, including ones under the stringent SC/ST Act, appeared only later.
Her chats painted a clearer picture. According to the Court, she openly admitted to using the man involved in the case, strategizing over how to move on to “the next victim,” and targeting someone with a green card. One message revealed her tactic of irritating partners until they left—allowing her to reset and pursue the next.
“These chats depict a troubling behavioral pattern,” the bench observed. “The accused was justified in backing away from marriage upon discovering her obsessive and aggressive tendencies.”
The woman’s accusations of caste-based discrimination were dismissed as afterthoughts designed to intensify legal pressure. The Court emphasized that adding these allegations at a later stage rendered them suspicious and unsupported.
The judgment sharply criticized the weaponization of criminal law in this case. “Continuing these proceedings would be an abuse of legal process,” it concluded. With that, the case against the man was formally quashed.
The Court’s decision not only clears the accused but also serves as a caution against the misuse of serious legal provisions—particularly when used as tools of personal vengeance.
